How to play

Play marketing cards to attract new customers to Ottie’s fish stand.

  • 4x Mission Cards are placed on the table. Each one represents a dazzling marketing strategy to bring in new customers.

  • Every player draws 6x from a pile of Action and Wild Cards.

  • Match your Action Cards with the icons on any of the Mission Cards, and play them before anyone else does.

  • Use Wild Cards to surprise friends and change the dynamics of the game.

  • The player who brings Ottie the most customers wins.

Why did we create this game?

It started with a question from two curious kids.

Cass, the founder of OtterHalf, was getting really tired of telling her two daughters what she does at her “Otter Business.”

After one too many confused faces staring back at her, she knew she needed a better way.

Cass wished she’d learned marketing earlier, too.

In fact, she didn’t even know what marketing was until she entered university.

Maybe if she’d known sooner, that sticker business she started in primary school and the flea market booth she ran in junior college would’ve sold a whole lot more.

She wondered: Why don’t we teach marketing earlier? Why wait till adulthood to learn something so useful?

Whether it’s running a business, selling handmade creations, or even landing your dream job, good marketing makes all the difference.

So she made a game with Ottie the otter as the star.

Cass searched everywhere for a fun, compact game that could teach marketing. When she couldn’t find one, she decided to create it herself, knowing her daughters’ love for UNO, matching games, and most importantly… otters! 🦦

With that, Ottie’s Fishy Business was born: a playful way to explore marketing concepts through storytelling, and thinking like a little (or not so little) marketer.

  • Yes, we’ve even tested it on Cass’ kids, who loved the game instantly. It’s designed for ages 7+ with simple icons and instructions.

  • Nope. The game sneaks in basic marketing concepts while you play - so you’ll learn as you go.

  • Not at all. Adults enjoy it too! Especially the competitive ones…

  • The game is designed for 2-5 players.

  • Most games take around 15-30 minutes. It all boils down to your luck and strategy.

  • 55 cards, 1 instruction manual, 1 card box.
